Our colonized grain spawn provides a convenient starting point for mushroom cultivation without requiring you to inoculate and colonize grain yourself. Boise Mushroom Company prepares each 2 lb grain spawn bag for your selected mushroom variety, allowing you to move directly into the next stage of your growing project.

Each bag contains prepared grain that we inoculate with the mushroom culture you select. We then allow the mycelium time to colonize the grain before the order ships. As a result, these bags require additional preparation time compared with our non-colonized grain products.

Choose Your Mushroom Variety

Select your available mushroom variety when ordering. Because we prepare the spawn for your selection, availability and preparation times can vary. Most orders may require approximately two weeks before shipping to provide adequate colonization time.

The 2 lb size works well for home cultivators as well as experienced growers who want prepared spawn for small or medium cultivation projects. In addition, the sealed filter-patch bag helps maintain a contained environment during colonization and transportation.

Using Colonized Grain Spawn

Once your bag arrives, use the spawn with a suitable bulk or supplemented substrate for the mushroom species you selected. Break up the colonized grain as needed, then distribute it evenly throughout the appropriate prepared substrate. After mixing, maintain the environmental conditions required by that particular mushroom species.
